Title Pond watching

My garden is my space; I tend to it, walk in it, sit, and think in it, I escape to it.

“What I try to do is create something which is not inhibited by the scene that you look at, but is an experience of that scene”. British landscape artist Michael Porter walks in nature, repeatedly to the same spot, sketching, photographing, and observing the minute details we often don't take the time to see.

My pond draws me in every time I pass; to look at what’s new, what’s changed, to watch the newts and dragonflies and be quiet for a time. This work communicates my interest in the natural world conveyed through describing a place I know and love. It creates intrigue in how it was created, and conveys the sense of place through use of colour, materials and techniques.

Subject matter is important, the processes behind making meaningful and interesting artwork, and my personal response and approach, are crucial steps towards finding my own artistic voice. I will build on the confidence and skills gained on OFCAD to experiment and find my own path this coming year.

“Undertaking OFCAD has provided me with the direction, teaching and support I needed to develop my skills and confidence.”
