Title: All Eyes On Me

An exploration of the disparity between what is shown to the outside world compared to what is felt inside. Inspired by Tatiana Parcero’s Interior Cartography #35, where the artist simultaneously obscures and reveals herself to translate emotions and moods, re-inventing and recreating personal or collective experiences and visual metaphors, this work is a personal statement on the hidden emotions experienced through parenting a teenager. Use of found images on the self-portrait restricts how much can be seen, the viewer is given glimpses of the hidden thoughts and emotions that are not easily shared.

All Eyes On Me references wanting to be seen and understood: my daughter looking to me; the weight of responsibility; the watchful gaze of society.

“One of my goals for this course was to make more meaningful work and I’m proud that I’ve been able to bring a level of self, emotion and reflection to a piece that I couldn’t have imagined making this time last year. I feel I have grown both technically and conceptually as an artist and I’m excited to progress my emerging practice with more exploration of issues around self-identity and society.”
