Title: Spring Rush

Tree peony, a true harbinger of spring whose astonishing buds begin to open in February to reveal nascent leaves and flower buds over time. A magical and rich display of unexpected colours and textures.

“Scaling up the tree peony buds and flooding the piece with colour conveys the power and energy this plant exudes as it responds to spring, and the promise of what is to come. The work reflects my confidence in drawing, using colour, and expressing myself more loosely with feeling.”

I’ve begun to learn the joy of ‘drawing the feeling’ and using intuition and emotion in my work. Future plans are to express more freely, use a wider range of materials, learn more about colour, and be relaxed about making a mess, taking a risk, and just having a go.

“My appreciation of other artist work has grown through the knowledge gained on the programme; visits to exhibitions, galleries and Instagram posts are even more inspiring now.
Sculpture from the land using found materials, was a revelation; I discovered a strand of art I’ve enjoyed since making nature tables as a child, and still return from a walk with ‘finds’ to display at home. It’s exhilarating to consider how I might develop this approach further.”
