Title From Trauma Comes Healing
Post Traumatic Stress Disorders can affect anyone who has been exposed to trauma – an event or events which provoked fear, helplessness, or horror in response to the threat of injury or death.
‘From Trauma comes Healing’ is a series of three videos using light sound and visual effect, to convey the journey between trauma and healing. The suspended box within the structure is known as the safe place. Shown with less light and what would be sound protection to the occupier this space is the area to go when the stimuli around becomes an assault on the senses. A maquette was constructed using a large foldout display board to make the three videos, and to visualise how this might look like as a large sculpture/art installation within a gallery situation. The work is portrayed using images only for the purpose of this exhibition.
The aim is to take this work forward, working with the relevant organisations to promote awareness of the condition.
“During Ofdad I have grown as an artist and am now equipped with skills which enable me to take an initial thought, work through processes and tested methodologies, and have the confidence to see an idea grow before me. I am far more organised and have ways of dealing with resistance which in turn allows the imagination to flow. I am not afraid to tackle topics which before OFDAD I would not have considered. I look forward to the future and taking my studies to degree level.”
