Title Written in Scars

“I resurrect things that have been killed off….my work is all about the potential of materials – even when it looks like they’ve lost all possibilities.” – Cornelia Parker.

Trauma is personal, this work evokes a sense of the hidden decay and turmoil beneath the surface. It portrays a landscape that has regrown, hiding the decay and destruction that had previously scarred the region. Alongside this is the idea of soldiers whose bodies may heal, so outwardly may appear ‘back to normal’, but their mind is still in turmoil.
The accidents from experimenting with materials and processes informed the work. I will continue to play breaking perceived rules on how to use materials to explore this subject further.

“This course has shown me that almost anything can be used to create texture and pattern, and I love to experiment and combine them. It has given me confidence that I can just play and create something beautiful rather than sticking to perceived rules on how to use certain materials.”
