Title: Beyond Spirals
,

Spirals are found often in nature, in sunflower heads, pinecones, and other shells. The painting seeks to reveal the hidden beauty of nature through the geometric pattern in the nautilus shell.

I was particularly drawn to The Nautilus Shell for its beauty, geometrical shape, symbolism, and its appearance in nature. It is a symbol of nature’s grace in growth, expansion, and renewal and of order amongst chaos as reflected in its spiral precision. The spiral of the nautilus is not just any spiral,  measuring it reveals that it conforms to the shape of the Golden Ratio spiral, known as a sacred geometry.

I like the simplicity of the artwork and the beauty of the curves, there are many more aspects arising from my research on this project that I will explore, including spirals in nature and different shells, scale, and media.

“ While this course has been hard work it has been a good experience, giving me a focus for my work and goals to achieve. I would like to continue to explore creating abstract landscape paintings, and to investigate the influence of mathematics on art and the inclusion of geometry in artworks. ”
