Title: Well-being
The work references nature connectedness; see, feel, hear, through the shape of the underside of the mushroom cap and lettering. The 19th century Japanese illustration by Iwasaki from Toshimitsu Fukiharu’s “Mushroom Botanical Art” was inspiration in developing a collage from original drawings. I also referenced Paul Morrison’s use of historical botanical images and cartoons in his black and white landscapes. This quote from Hume’s conversation with Darian Leader resonated with me:
“I’m interested in how two shapes meet - edges - it’s how to make things visible”
Hume’s process uses tape and draught excluder to mask areas before applying multiple layers of household gloss paint. Using an abstracted image of a fruiting body of fungi as the central focus of the work I was influenced by both contemporary and modern artists in choice of media and process.

“ The OFCAD has been a great learning opportunity one which I wish to continue and so I have made application for further study at West Dean”
