Title: Inner Landscape

Inner Landscape relates the phrases, “Mother Earth” and “The Unknown” to the Portavo landscape in which I live. It expresses the ever-changing, transient, phantasmagorical feeling experienced when walking through it. My ambition is to inspire the viewer to reflect on layers of landscape, to experience the transient nature of the land we live on and to imagine the stories within.

The work is inspired by contemporary Scottish artist, Robbie Bushe, who creates paintings in a narrative style using a limited, close-toned palette, often depicting imagined, detailed, dreamy landscapes. “Childhood activities have re-emerged as a crucial research methodology for my work.” - Robbie Bushe.

There are an incredible amount of stories contained within this tiny townland of 583 acres from which to do a series of mixed media work based on the Portavo landscape and its people.

“During the OFCAD course, the most significant learning point for me was the introduction to expressive drawing and to draw what’s in your heart. It’s helped me enormously in trying to depart from realistic drawing. And about being more generous as an artist and putting a bit of me into the work.”
