Title Her Hidden Infertility
A landscape longing for motherhood. The figure in the foreground represents the woman whose inner self blends into the dark purple shadows of the barren landscape, indicating a sense of sadness and mourning. This contrasts against the ‘front’ or ‘façade’ she presents on the outside as one of the glowing figures in the sunset symbolising fertility, beauty, passion and positivity. I was drawn to the abstract nature of Jo Forbes’ artwork; the thick brushstrokes and use of bold, contrasting colours. In her piece entitled ‘North York Moors Walk’, the contrast of soft pastels against bright, illuminated colours depicts the true warmth and beauty of a sunset. “I am interested in mark making and often let my pencil or paintbrush guide me to access emotions that the scene evokes.” – Jo Forbes. I used this approach to allow my raw emotion to guide me, producing and expressing a more spontaneous response. |

“ This final module has enabled me to deepen my critical thinking by exploring a concept and how this can be represented in a piece of art. I will continue to explore the concept further and produce artwork which captures feelings and emotions, to express myself creatively. ” |
