Title Looking for calm

The work presents a human reaction to the outside world. It conveys a personal lived experience that evokes the use of more than one human sense to demonstrate the depth of this “reaction”. Visual, textural and multi-layered it shows our family’s love of the outside space we are privileged to be custodians of, but which also entraps us with responsibility of conservation alongside our wish to share this beautiful landscape as we navigate our way, longing for calm.
The use of personal social context is often referenced as influential in art.  Hurvin Anderson stated, “It’s only in painting that you can do everything you want.” Njideka Akunyili Crosby uses collage and transfers to create multi-layered, abstract yet realistic, neat and large work, using frames and screens as viewing portals. As an avid family photo album-maker the use of personal images resonated.  I am keen to make greater use of printing techniques and to use different combinations of media, abstraction and scale.

“ OFCAD has reignited a love of practicing art following a long period of absence.  The variety of modules enabled me to experience new techniques and approaches and opened-up a world of possibility, as well as introducing me to the discipline of studying established artists and appreciating the value of a structured and methodical approach to creating an artwork.”
